Frequently Asked Questions

Are these attack dogs? Will they be aggressive in my house?

It’s a common misconception that protection dogs are naturally aggressive. Our dogs are trained to be calm, thoughtful, and stable, with the ability to distinguish between potential threats and friendly faces like neighbours or visitors. They are highly obedient, and as long as the owner maintains that level of discipline, they will be well-mannered in any situation. These dogs are trained to respond to intent, remaining perfectly behaved unless a genuine threat arises.

Are these dogs safe to be around me and my children

Yes, our protection dogs are completely safe around children. We focus on raising dogs with love, care, and positive reinforcement, ensuring they grow into reliable protectors. As part of their training, all of our dogs are socialised with children of all ages. We also breed only from dogs with proven records as excellent family protectors and from reputable, well-documented bloodlines. This guarantees that our dogs are both stable and capable, possessing the qualities needed to protect and love your children. We recognize that every dog and family is different, which is why we take the time to get to know you and your family, ensuring we pair you with the perfect dog.

What breed is best for family protection?

The most common breeds for protection dogs include German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Dutch Shepherds. Some breeders choose to cross breed, which often introduces unpredictability in terms of health, behaviour, and physical characteristics.

At TigerHillK9 we only focus on providing Purebred German Shepherds for protection needs. This is because German Shepherds in general are known for their family focus, and stability around busy households. They are also highly intelligent and rank among the top breeds for problem-solving and learning new commands, both essential traits required for protection dogs. Furthermore, they are known for their strong bond with their owners, and are fiercely loyal and protective

What type of German Shepherds do you sell?

Our kennel only produces Purebred German Shepherds, specifically, Czech Working Line German Shepherds. Czech German Shepherds are a specific line of German Shepherds that originated from Czechoslovakia. They are known for their working ability, intelligence, and strong drive, making them ideal for police, military, and protection work.

Our dogs thrive when they are given a job to do, whether that is protecting you while you are on a trail, protecting your kids while they play in your backyard, and even protecting your property or business while you are away. Families who value a strong, protective, and loyal dog will find our dogs to be exceptional companions and protectors.

Why do your dogs cost so much?

People frequently ask this question but often overlook the extensive effort involved in shaping these dogs. We start training at 8 weeks old, providing daily care, attention, and instruction until they join their forever family at around 1 to 2 years of age. You’re not just investing in exceptional foundational training, unparalleled in the industry; you’re also gaining the confidence that comes with TigerHillK9’s renowned, tested, and proven lineage. When considering the cost, the real question is: what is guaranteed peace of mind worth to you?

How do I command my dog and maintain its training?

At the time of delivery, we will be there in person to demonstrate how to handle and work with your new dog, ensuring you have the same level of control that our trainers do. We’ll also provide you with our training techniques and principles so you can maintain your dog’s training effectively at home. If you ever feel the need for a follow-up session or additional maintenance training, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always here to help.

Will the dog bite if they meet a new person in my house and I am not there?

Our dogs are trained to respond solely based on intent. If someone enters your home with the intent to rob or harm you, the dog will protect you. However, if it’s your neighbour stopping by to borrow a cup of sugar, they’re welcome to come in! It doesn’t matter if the dog has never met your neighbour or if the person posing a threat is someone the dog knows well, like a brother they’ve met 100 times. The dog can sense the difference between malicious and harmless intent.

How do I bond with my dog and how long does it take?

For most dogs, the bond with their new owners starts to form within hours. However, the complete bonding process can take anywhere from three days to two weeks, depending on factors such as the dog’s temperament, the number of people in the household, and other circumstances. Each dog’s relationship with their new owner is unique, and the time needed to fully bond varies based on the individual dog’s personality.

What is the guarantee for your dogs?

For all of our dogs, we provide a guarantee on health, and on the fit between our dog and your family. Each dog undergoes a comprehensive medical evaluation, including checks for hips and elbows, before being sold. Additionally, we ensure that both sire (male parent) and dam (female parent) have certified hip and elbow evaluations, along with meeting our stringent genetic criteria.

Ensuring that the protection dog you select is the right fit for you is essential. Our confidence in our dogs and training allows us to guarantee that the dog we place with you will be a perfect match. If, for any reason, you feel the dog is not ideal, we will work with you to find an optimal solution. All these assurances are detailed in the written contract.
