It is truly astonishing to watch how in one moment I can send him outside onto the deck to warn a vehicle who is approaching without our consent or to alert me to and cautiously protect me from an approaching stranger in the woods I didn't see who shouldn't be here, to transition to being a friendly companion when he has assessed no threat and we can engage in nice conversation with the stranger and him play with the person he just met- and of course there is no doubt that should that situation suddenly change, he would react immediately and most appropriately.
